Gholamhossein Ghayeghvar was a First Warrant Officer and a skilled commando in the Imperial Iranian Army. He became a significant figure in the historical record of the 1980 Nojeh coup attempt, also known as the Shahrokhi Uprising, an effort by military officers to challenge the early government of the Islamic Republic. Following the failure of the uprising, Ghayeghvar was arrested and subjected to a televised trial. Archival footage from these proceedings shows him confronting his accusers, including Mohammad Reyshahri, with notable defiance. During the trial, he remained steadfast in his motivations, famously stating that his actions were driven solely by his devotion to his homeland: "Our only thought was the country." Ghayeghvar’s life was cut short just ten days after his arrest. He was executed by firing squad on July 20, 1980. He is remembered by many as a "Javidnam" (eternal name) who remained committed to his military oath and his country until his final moments.
